Everything We Do Has An Effect On Others
by David J. Stewart
Romans 14:7, “For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.”
The Bible teaches that everything we do affects others. You may not think that sin is causing any harm, but it most certainly is. Playboy magazine founder, Hugh Hefner, has made very public has warped opinions about morality, teaching the same nightmare philosophy as Satanist, Aleister Crowley. That is, that anything is permissible just so long as long as no one gets hurt. DO AS THOU WILL SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW, says Crowley. Playboy magazine has caused MILLIONS of divorces, heartaches and broken homes.
There is no sin that doesn't affect others adversely in some manner. Sin always has consequences. Sin always costs a price. The Devil never gives away anything for free. The popular attitude is that sin is not really sin if it doesn't hurt anyone. That's what the Devil wants people to think. Sin always undermines and destroys. All of the taverns across America may seem harmless, but 1-in-8 women are now binge drinkers in 2012. Booze is a spiritual disease!
Homosexuality may seem harmless between two consenting gays having sex in their own home; but the shocking reality is that the homosexual influence upon society has led America into widespread sexual immorality, perversion and sexual exploitation of young girls and boys. Sin has a price! America is going down the toilet economically, educationally, socially, politically and spiritually. Sin begets more sin. Jesus foretold in Matthew 24:12 that the love of many people would wax cold because of abounding iniquity (rampant unpunished evil).
Hell burns with real fire. Few people truly believe in a literal Hell. The popular attitude is that this earthly life is hell, but I assure you that the worst suffering in this temporal life cannot compare to the eternal suffering of all the wicked who die in their sins without Jesus Christ as their Savior. Everything that we do has an effect on others. Many backslidden believers today are a root of bitterness amongst their fellow Christian brothers and sisters, because of unrepentant sin in their life. Balaam in the Old Testament is known today as "The Prophet For Hire." Because of Balaam's sinful compromise in his preaching, he led God's People into adulterous sexual sins with the heathens. Balaam was the Billy Graham of the time, selling out for worldly fame, fortune and pleasure. Israel paid a horrible price. One greedy preacher led an entire nation to sin against God.
As Christians we need to continually be aware that everything we do has an effect on others. Certainly, we're all guilty of failing at times to set forth the right example. We've all failed at times to exemplify Christ in our life as we should daily. Instead of reminding people of the Lord, sometimes believers behave more like the Devil by gossiping, lying to make money or having wandering eyes toward the opposite sex. It is a sin to do these things. No sin, no matter how seemingly harmless, is without consequences. The way we dress, talk, behave, respond to problems and criticism... it all has an influence on others. It could be the difference between Heaven and Hell for some. Very few souls are going to Heaven. Jesus warned in Matthew 7:13-14 that the highway to Hell is wide and many people are taking that route to eternal destruction and torment. Our words and actions do affect others.
