God's Love
by David J. Stewart
God's love is a "never-failing" love, it suffereth long.
"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up," —1st Corinthians 13:4
God never leaves, never quits, nor gives up on us!
"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." —Hebrews 13:5
As Christians, we should possess the same type of love for those in our life. Divorce should never be an option. If God never leaves, then neither should we. If we are to be Christ-like, then we surely cannot cut-and-run on our loves ones and responsibilities. God hates divorce, it is a cowards way out. There was a day in America when a person's marriage vows meant something more than a mere ceremonial formality. You made a "promise" to love and cherish, for better or worse, in sickness or health, 'til death do us part. If God lovingly tolerates our sinfulness and pride, then surely we should tolerate our spouse's. God puts up with us! Therefore, we should put up with each other. Marriage is two people putting up with each other for a lifetime.
Love is never cruel, never seeks to hurt anyone. Ironically, some of the cruelest people in this world are professed Christians and even Pastors. America's preachers are a sad bunch! Many pastors are materialistic, dishonest, greedy, liars, exaggerators, unthankful, untrustworthy, mean, arrogant, and even criminals. This is a tragic sign of America's continued moral decline.
God's people should be understanding, kind and loving towards all (including animals). I've noticed in my lifetime that here is a natural tendency for Christians to become sanctimonious (hypocritically devout). In other words, they think they're doing a whole lot better spiritually than they really are. They think that they're living for God, but in reality they are not. They think that they're fair and loving, but in reality they are cruel and hurtful towards other people. Such people are too big for their own britches and need to learn a lesson. God is in the business of correcting such people (Romans 12:19; 1st Thessalonians 4:6).
"That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified." -1st Thessalonians 4:6
No one is going to get away with wrong doing. God keeps His commitments and promises. Wrong doers will pay! Therefore, we should do our best to obey God by loving other people as we would want to be loved (Matthew 7:12).
"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." -Matthew 7:12
God's love is a longsuffering love, patient and humble. We must never desire to hurt others because of our own pride and unreasonableness. Truly, pride is a killer!!! Oh how proud are men's hearts today!
If we are to be pleasing to the Lord, then we must learn to love as Christ Himself loves. I've met many phonies in my lifetime, angel on the surface but devil underneath. You wouldn't expect such behavior from a child of God, let alone from a pastor of a church. I'll be frank, most pastors don't belong behind the pulpit. There are some legitimate men of God in this world who genuinely love God and people, but many simply choose to pursue the ministry as an alternative to punching a clock for a living. It is sad when the church members are more spiritual than their pastor.
Do you have God's love? If you can cold-heartedly hurt other people, then you surely do not. If you can break commitments and lose your patience, then you surely do not. You are a big phony. I do not mean to attack pastors in this article, but simply to point out that it is God's men who should be leading. Everything rises and falls on leadership. On the contrary, pastors all across America are an embarrassment to the ministry and a reproach to the Lord Jesus Christ. When you hurt people, it will eventually come back to haunt you.
"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up." —1st Corinthians 13:4
Love never seeks to hurt anyone. On the contrary, love is patient. Love is reasonable. Love is fair. Love is open-minded. Love never seeks to argue. Love is not belligerent. Love is not threatening. Love does not cause fear. I pray that you will search your heart and ask yourself if you have God's love. Do you have God's love? Do you have God?
"Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days."
